Writing news has been scarce. Semester has been heavy. FT teaching, freelancing, supporting the living -- thick thick thick. Good things: A book-length project began in 2012 has been getting significant traction with small presses and competitions. A story will run soon in the last ever print issue of Crab Orchard Review. A handful of notes have arrived from strangers who came upon my work in the wild. Twice a week I get to lead rooms full of young people who believe in magic and patience.

Celebratory first post: I learned this week that a story I've been tinkering with and periodically giving up on -since 2009- received second prize in Carve Magazine's Raymond Carver Short Story contest. Might be the best news I've ever gotten about a piece of writing.
